The Wine Hill is deemed to be a hillfort, but there is also the opinion that it was used as a cult site in relation with the Mezotne hillfort.
The Wine Hill as a hillfort with indications from earthworks was fortified by natural means – the River Lielupe valley and the side ravines. Minor archaeological surveys have been carried out on the Wine Hill, but no explicit evidence of its use in the former days has been found. Considering the few fragments from dishes, which were found on the hill, it could refer to the first millenary AD.
