The Katvari or Vannīši Lake is related to a mythological tale about a lake created by the God and the Devil’s counteractions by jagging the banks of the lake. The area of the lake is about 65 ha, the maximum depth of 3.2 m, average depth of 1.6 m. The lake has low and gently sloping banks; the Katvari manor house with the park, which is well taken care of, are located there.
The Vannīši Lake is situated near the Katvari manor house, that is why it is called the Katvari Lake. The God created this lake as a beautiful round lake without any jags, more like a bathtub. The people were very happy about its roundish form, but the Devil did not like that at all. Once at night, when everybody was asleep, the Devil jagged the beautiful banks of the lake. The God became angry about that and sent the Devil to hell, but the banks of the lake remained jagged by the Devil until nowadays. (Latvian Folklore Repository 556, 11701)
